There are two shrines at the top of the garden. The three stone lanterns in the garden are placed as if pointing to these two shrines, and a round mirror is placed in the small shrine at the back. The main hall of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in Kyoto and the main hall, worship hall, and tower gate of Hyōzu Taisha Shrine in Shiga face Joshoko-ji Temple, and a huge number of prayers from both shrines are directed to this temple. I read that the round mirror is intended to reflect a huge number of prayers toward the heavens. In the dead of winter, the sound of water carried by the clear air echoes through the garden surrounded by buildings, piercing the heart through the chilled body.
