Takagamo Shrine

From around the mid-Edo period, many profound gardens based on the Book of Changes, which was strongly influenced by Confucianism, began to be created. It is a simple garden with Yamato's Katsuragi Mountain as a backdrop , but it is imbued with deep meaning. Takakamo Shrine enshrines a family centered around the god Ajisuki Takahikone, so it is said that the garden depicts the mindset of a chaste woman who married into a good family. When a woman marries, she does not get along with her mother-in-law, but eventually she becomes friendly with her mother-in-law and, consulting with her, performs her duties for the family she married into. When her son marries, she becomes the mother-in-law herself and takes charge of the household, a drama of feudal times hidden within.
